Boaz and Ruth was the proud recipient of the 2007 Governor's Award for Best National Service Program at the Virginia Conference on Community Service. The organization was recognized for its pioneering work bringing communities together to empower lives and promote economic progress through its work in job-training and life skills for ex-offenders and recovering addicts.
Reverend Lloyd Price, Director of Training, said, “We were surprised and privileged to receive recognition as an outstanding service provider for the AmeriCorp Program. It was a great encouragement to the staff and apprentices of Boaz and Ruth. We thank Governor Kaine for his recognition of our hard work.”
Boaz and Ruth began its partnership with AmeriCorp in 2004. Through this partnership dozens of apprentices have participated in daily life labs as well as received 10 hours a week of training in emotional intelligence and life skills. In addition to changing individual lives, the Boaz and Ruth AmeriCorp Endeavor (BRACE), is influencing long-term change by raising visibility of the North District area, and increasing visitors to the neighborhood.
