Boaz & Ruth’s 3rd Annual Diamond Debut Gala and Auction was held on May 16 at Lingle Hall on the campus of Union Theological Seminary.Over 200 people attended the event, which included a silent auction and dinner provided by Diamond Catering in collaboration with the Lingle Hall staff.
The purpose of the signature event is to educate Boaz & Ruth friends about the challenges of re-entry and to raise funding for the organization.Building on the success of last year’s gala, organized by Joan Sties, this year, Cynthia Jones-Roane added her event planning experience as the volunteer gala organizer.Other key volunteers included Sheila Mandt and Regis Wilson.
Guests enjoyed an hour-long reception during which they bid on dozens of silent auction items, including gift baskets, jewelry, performance tickets and even a day at City Hall.Over dinner, they heard from Boaz & Ruth Trainees Geraldine Coley and Tommy Cox who shared how the organization has impacted their lives.
In addition to the silent auction, several items were auctioned live, including a weekend at the Jefferson Hotel, a “date night” in Carytown and a fish fry provided by Diamond Catering. As the signature event of Boaz & Ruth, the Diamond Debut raises significant funds each year, providing $45,000 in 2007 for the operation and programs of the organization.
