- Assistant Volunteer Coordinator -

Description:

Planted in the center of Highland Park, one of Richmond, Virginia's most troubled areas, Boaz & Ruth's mission is to rebuild lives and communities through relationships, training, transitional jobs, and economic revitalization.
Three key strategies pursue that mission:
  • We rebuild lives of formerly incarcerated men and women through a transitional jobs and training program.
  • We empower the physically blighted commercial corridor of Highland Park by restoring buildings, incubating and operating businesses, and providing jobs.
  • We connect Highland Park and our program participants to the wider Richmond community through activities that bridge racial, economic, and geographic barriers.



The Volunteer Coordinator partners and recruits key stakeholders within the community to bring about the mission of restoring lives and restoring the community of Highland Park. You will be working individual volunteers (community members, students, and individuals with court mandated service requirements), assessing their gifts and aligning them with the needs of the organization. You may also identify growth areas, placing volunteers in roles that foster learning experiences.  

You will also be working with volunteer groups that serve on a one time basis (particularly on weekends). The role requires a person with the ability to envision needs and coordinate details for service learning projects.

Overview of Position:

This position is a grant funded position by AmeriCorps. If accepted for the position, you will need ot sign a 1700 hour contract (~1 year). The contract allows for about 3 weeks of paid time off and offers health insurance coverage for you as the individual.

Core Functions:
- Communications liaison between departments and incoming volunteers
- Manage day-to-day volunteers to ensure that assignment expectations are clear, organizational objectives are met, and experiential learning is achieved
- Pioneer new methods of data management (revising forms, data collection systems, and data workflows)
- Maintain current volunteer data (profiles, hours served, and assignment records)
- Coordinate of service learning days (writing project descriptions, securing tools and materials, and coordinating logistics)
- Recruite volunteers through the use of a local database and online recruitment tools
- Responsible for planning the Annual Volunteer Appreciation event

Marketing Assistance and Social Networking
- Compose both content and layout for email marketing campaigns
- Website maintenance (calendar, member info, Facebook, Twitter, and other information as requested)

Technology
- Opportunity to assist with an entry level computer class
- Provide computer support to staff as needed
