Be a Boaz!
Volunteer Your Time and Talents at Boaz & Ruth

Volunteers are making a difference in a number of ways.  Are you drawn to the mission and eager to get to work?  Look at the possibilities for immediate connection and consider yourself called!

Immediate Opportunities

  • Answer phones at Boaz & Ruth.  Help is currently needed at the following times:

                                    Tuesdays - 3:45-5:00 PM

                                    Wednesdays - 8:00-10:30 AM and 3:45-5:00 PM

                                    Thursdays - 8:30-10:30 AM

                                    Fridays - 3:45-5:00 PM

  • Volunteer at the Harvest Stores to assist Boaz & Ruth Trainees with sales and customer service.
  • Help out at the Fire House 15 Restaurant.
  • Help with mailings.
  • Volunteer at the Sunny Days Clothing Store to help organize inventory, stock the sales floor and build simple display racks and shelving.
  • Tutor a Trainee as he/she prepares for the GED exam.
  • Help paint the exterior of the Benefield Building.

Ongoing Opportunities

  • Assist with landscaping around the Boaz & Ruth campus.
  • Donate furniture and home accessories to our Harvest Stores.
  • Assist with Connecting Across Richmond dinners.  These informal dinners are held monthly with a primary purpose of connecting Highland Park and our program participants to the wider Richmond community.  Join us for dinner as often as you can. Or volunteer to help prepare, serve, and cleanup for one of the dinners.
  • Volunteer at an estate sale.  Estate sales offer the opportunity for "gleanings" (items remaining at the end of the sale are donated to us).  Volunteers are needed to assist Trainees with pricing and selling, as well as boxing and transporting "gleanings" to our storage facility in Highland Park. This is a chance to get to know someone who will benefit from the program and to build inventory for the Boaz & Ruth stores.
  • Participate in Beyond Dialogue, a series of dinner-and-a-movie events that uses film as a catalyst for honest discussions about race and reconciliation.
  • Come on a Mission Trip to Highland Park.  Bring members of your church, family or other group to spend a weekend or a week working on projects in Highland Park.
  • Assist with the annual Diamond Debut Gala.  Opportunities include:

Making flower arrangements in advance of the event

Helping set up the silent auction

Working with Diamond Catering to prepare tables and serve guests

Helping with clean up at the end of the evening

Serving as a cashier for the auction

Wrapping up auction items for winning bidders

  • Make a tax deductible financial donation to sponsor a Trainee or a bridge-building event.
  • Shop at Boaz & Ruth often.  Bring a friend!
